I just had to sit on the rock and wait it out while I got drenched by the waves. The Atlantic Ocean is cold even in the summer. It was not fun.

Well maybe a little less than 8 foot. I had to jump at arms length and I stand at 6 foot

My experience involved hauling me and my gear over an 8 foot ledge as the rushing tide lapped at me feet. The steps I came down in the dark were then under 6 foot of water. Without the ledge at the back I would have had to attempt rock climbing on the white cliffs of dover for 3 hours with no gear!

Absolutely one should know the tides. I got stranded on a rock off the coast of Miami Florida once. It sucked.

From experience (and nearly a disastrous one). Always check the tide times and movements before going. There can be many sections of beach that become totally cut off at high tide so it's important to know your location and tides very well - especially if out shooting on your own in the early or late hours.
