Seeing More

Sunday is Remembrance Day in the UK. A day when we gather at Cenotaphs across the country to remember those who have given their lives for democracy.
It is especially poignant for many families this year in Britain and America as lives continue to be lost in countries like Afghanistan.
My mother's young brother died a horrific death in world war two, trapped in a Lancaster bomber as it fell from the sky over Germany.
I remember him - I also remember, or try to, that there were people on the receiving end of the bombs he carried.
I don't lay blame I just hope that some day in the future people will walk past crumbling cenotaphs and wonder what they were for.
I have this little film sequence in my head where a small girl traces the word War of the stones with her finger. Looks puzzled. Turns to her mother and asks: "Mam, what is war?".

Great commentary. The monster lies within. I posted "Dora" on redbubble that
relates the story of my grandmother who traveled from Poland to Ellis Island
New York, to save her family from the vicious pograms before the Holacaust.
She rolled cigars in a factory and saved one brother and lost two sisters, her mother
and father. The trip was hell and she was only seventeen. I have great empathy for
your loss David.

Evil is not just of one culture or another...it is of human kind.
